State auctions abandoned jewelry

MADISON, Wis. -

If you’re in the market for Colombian emerald earrings or an Amethyst pendant, the state treasurer has a deal for you.

The state is selling abandoned jewelry it’s collected on eBay.

Each year, the state treasurer receives the contents of bank safe deposit boxes that have been abandoned for at least five years.

The names of the contents’ owners are published in local newspapers and available online at Wisconsin’s Unclaimed Property Web site. The state keeps the contents for at least three more years.

Beginning Monday, Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass says more than $10,000 worth of jewelry and watches are up for sale on eBay. The proceeds are held by the state indefinitely for the jewelry owners. The auction ends Feb. 2.

What is A Princess Cut Diamond?

The Princess cut diamond is a very popular cut shape. The top is a square shape while the bottom looks like pyramid.

Typically, diamonds with a square top cut are less expensive than the round-cut diamonds. While the round-cut diamond is a bit more expensive than the square-cut, or princess cut diamond, both can show the brilliance of a beautiful wedding or engagement ring. As they say, "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend."

Using the 4C's To Determine A Great Diamond

Cut: Of all the 4 Cs, cut has the greatest effect on a diamond's beauty. In grading, cut evaluates the cutters skill in the fashioning of the diamond.

Color: A truly colorless diamond is extremely rare. Most diamonds possess varying degrees of yellow or brown and small, subtle differences in color can make a substantial difference in value.

Clarity: Clarity is the evaluation of a diamond's internal and external characteristics. The fewer inclusions or blemishes, the more desirable the diamond.

Carat: The standard used to measure diamond weight is the carat. A carat equals 1/5 of a gram (or 1/142 of an ounce). Each carat is further divided into points, each point representing 1/100th of a carat.

How To Measure Your Ring Size

The most important factor when purchasing any ring, is making sure it fits. To measure your finger:

1. Wrap a piece of string or paper string around the base of your finger. (Do not wrap it to tight or loosely).

2. Mark the string or paper where it overlaps to form a complete circle.

3. Measure the length of the section of string or paper where it overlaps around the finger.

4. Compare your measurement with this chart to determine your ring size.

Wedding & Anniversary Gifts

by: sam123

Memories can invoke very strong emotions. At a young age our memories take hold and later in life these can be sparked by sights, sounds, touch, tastes, and smells. Special occasions tend to hold the deepest memories, ones birthdays', Christmas, first date, graduation, and matrimony, to a couple's first born and then the cycle begins again in another's memories.

The memory of ones wedding celebration marks a special passage of time. Ones own memories that were once exclusive to only you are now shared with another and the two become one in thought, emotion and in this way all future memories change and are never remembered again as exclusively your own. No longer is it "my" memories but "our" memories.

The yearly anniversary which now marks that sharing of time has such special meaning, over the years much thought has gone into the giving of gifts for a couple's wedding anniversary. This guide offers suggestions for gift giving for both men and women and insight into traditional and modern gifts and offers purchasing opportunities from trusted merchants that assisted in producing this guide.

In later years of matrimony, gifts gained value (which tends to correspond with society status and professional security), including 15th (crystal), 20th (china), 25th (silver), and 50th (gold).

By the time her publication was reprinted in 1957, the growing importance of wedding anniversary celebrations in America required more guidance and the traditional gift list had been expanded to include all of the first 15 years, and multiples of five thereafter. Additionally, as 35 years had passed since the original publication modern alternatives were again added and updated to include more socially acceptable gift options.

The traditional and modern anniversary gift guides have changed very little during the past half-century where traditional gifts are deeply rooted in heritage yet modern gifts greatly assist to offset cultural differences. The giving of a gift to your partner on the memorable occasion of shared thought is so symbolic that this guide has been developed to assist making the occasion truly one worth marking the passage of time from here.

If your jewelry collection is starting to look like a tangle of treasure - it's time to de-clutter!

Every January I like to reorganize my "bounty" and rediscover hidden jewels in my own jewelry boxes.

I have 5 easy solutions for organizing your collection now, so you will enjoy your pieces for a lifetime.

1) Start by weeding through everything - sorting the like items together (rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces). Then sort by size and color (silver, gold, gemstone pieces together; small and large pieces together).

2) Make a pile of items that need repair. Put aside things you plan to give away and throw away those mismatched and hopelessly broken items that have seen better days!

3) Keep very valuable items and family keepsakes where you won't lose track of them. Create a file of appraisals and receipts for your more expensive pieces.

4) Don't forget: Out of sight, out of mind. Our Prestige "window" boxes are the perfect solution for viewing your collections at a glance. Another benefit: your silver, vermeil and gold will all stay tarnish free!

If your necklaces look like an
unsightly nest of knots, our
necklace box is a great
solution
5) Finally, put your "wearable art" on display....Busts, trees, and jewelry holders are another great way to enjoy your beautiful adornments.
